Martha Argerich Festival

Making music among friends: from the 20th to the 30th of June 2023, resident artist with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra Martha Argerich will invite her large family of musicians, including friends and long-time companions, to Hamburg for the 5th time. The legendary festival this year boasts a total of eleven concerts. In addition to classical greats including Mischa Maisky, Daniel Barenboim, Daniil Trifonov, Stephen Kovacevich and Elena Bashkirova, renowned musicians from other musical genres such as the trumpeter Avishai Cohen, the fadista Carminho and the Indian singer Kaushiki Chakraborty will also be taking part.

Martha Argerich’s affection for Hamburg’s Laeiszhalle is evident every time the legendary pianist returns to its stage.

In June 2023, she will once again pay tribute to her adopted musical home with the 5th Martha Argerich Festival. The festival provides a unique and refreshing atmosphere for both artists and audiences. For eleven days, the carousel of touring and guest appearances comes to a stop, providing a welcome opportunity for musicians from around the world to share intense, accessible and, in the finest sense, unplanned musical moments of the highest artistic quality. As in previous years, one highlight will lead to the next as world-famous artists join talented young musicians from the fields of classical, jazz and world music in an atmosphere of friendship and collaboration.

In addition to renowned classical musicians such as Mikhail Pletnev, Maxim Vengerov and Gil Shaham, world music stars such as the Fado singer Carminho and the celebrated Indian singer Kaushiki Chakraborty will inspire and delight audiences in the Laeiszhalle. Old friends of the festival will also return, among them Mischa Maisky and Daniel Barenboim. And Daniil Trifonov and Sergei Babayan will perform the concert that an accident forced them to cancel last year.

We wish to express our gratitude to Martha Argerich and all of this year’s artists. We especially wish to thank the B. Grimm Group, Christl and Prof. Dr. Michael Otto, Hye Chong Lim and Bernd Jörg for their generous support.

We look forward to welcoming you to this year’s Martha Argerich Festival!
